1:45AM Severe Weather Update for North Texas & Morning Forecast

2016-11-28_1-42-05

Good morning! Some of you are probably getting woken up by thunderstorms this morning. At this point we do not have any severe weather warnings in effect, but we are monitoring for the chance of a couple severe storms this morning.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect along and north of Highway 380 from Graham and Henrietta east to McKinney and Paris through 6 AM. We do have a line of strong storms moving northeast in western sections of the watch area at this time. They are not severe, but some storms are strong at this point and could become severe at any time. The strongest storms this morning may produce hail up to the size of quarters and localized wind gusts up to 60 MPH. The tornado threat is very low, but I can’t absolutely rule out a brief tornado.

The line of thunderstorms taking shape this morning will continue to make progress to the east/northeast. Additional storms will likely form this morning before a cool front starts to push east toward I-35 by 5-6 AM. The best chance for storms in the D/FW Metroplex will be from 3 AM through about 9 AM. Some of the storms may be on the stronger side with hail up to the size of quarters and gusty winds. Some heavy rain is also a good bet which could cause street flooding in the construction zones. Overall it’s not going to be the best morning rush hour. Most precipitation will be moving east of I-35 and D/FW by 9-10 AM.

Severe weather outlook for later today

Severe weather outlook for later today

The threat for storms will increase in Northeast Texas and East Texas with time this morning. Besides the main line of storms accompanying the cold front additional storms may form in the warm-sector. Some of these storms could produce hail up to the size of quarters and localized wind gusts up to 60 MPH. A brief tornado is possible, but the higher threat for tornadoes will be in Louisiana and Mississippi later today.
