Cloud cover will increase across Texas through the day as our next upper-level storm system approaches from the west. Dense fog is likely tonight into Thursday morning across the Hill Country, Central Texas, South Texas, Edwards Plateau, and the Rio Grande Plains, Rio Grande Valley, and Coastal Plains. Isolated thunderstorms may develop late afternoon or early evening in the eastern Texas Panhandle. Hail can’t be ruled out, but it shouldn’t be a widespread issue.

Showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous Thursday morning across the eastern half of Texas. Another round of thunderstorms is likely Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening across the state’s eastern third. Some storms may be strong to severe, with large hail, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. Flash flooding can’t be ruled out across Southeast Texas and East Texas. Precipitation chances will end from west to east Friday morning across East Texas.

Friday, Saturday, and at least the first half of Sunday should be mostly dry. A powerful storm system will bring a return of gusty winds on Sunday, with the chance of thunderstorms Sunday night into Monday for the eastern half of the state. No significant cold air intrusions are expected in Texas over the next five days. We’ll see temperatures near or a bit above the thirty-year climatological average for late March.
