Texas Severe Weather Update: Squall Line Developing & Moving East

A line of thunderstorms is developing along a southeastward moving cool front across Northwest Texas, the BIg Country, into the Concho Valley. Some of these storms in Northwest Texas have been producing hail up to the size of golf balls over the last couple of hours. Storms farther to the south may also show signs of intensification, with the risk of large hail and localized damaging wind gusts. Brief tornadoes are not out of the question this evening.

The line of thunderstorms will move east this evening, overnight, and through Monday morning. Storms will continue across Texoma, North Texas, the Big Country, Concho Valley, Hill Country, Central Texas, Brazos Valley, Ark-La-Tex, East Texas, and Southeast Texas. The line of storms should be exiting Texas to the east around lunch-time Monday.

The highest threat for severe storms will be over the coming hours and through early Monday morning. The overall threat for severe storms (large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes) should decrease during the pre-dawn hours, but storms will continue. We may see some uptick in the severe weather threat again toward lunchtime Monday as storms move closer to the Texas/Louisiana state line.

Snow showers are expected Monday in the Texas Panhandle. Strong northerly winds may result in pockets of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Accumulations ranging from a dusting to one inch are possible, especially north of Interstate 40.
