Mostly quiet weather in Texas for Today & Thanksgiving

We’re starting off on the cool side across Texas this morning, but nothing crazy cold for mid-November. Thanks to a dry airmass in place, we’ll warm up nicely this afternoon with high temperatures in the 50s and 60s. We’ll see the same kind of weather on Thanksgiving Day.

Later today into Thanksgiving Day may bring sprinkles to light rain across the southeastern half of Texas. While the weather radar may look like a big-ole blob of rain at times, dry air in the lower levels of the atmosphere may result in most precipitation evaporation before reaching the surface. Thanksgiving Day is not likely to be a washout, even if there are some light showers at times in the southeastern half of Texas.

A battle of the airmasses will begin on Friday and continue into the weekend. On Friday, temperatures may not get out of the 30s in the Texas Panhandle. Normally, that’s what we might see as a strong cold front is crashing south into Texas. However, our upcoming cold front will move at a snail’s pace. Temperatures south of the front on Friday through the weekend will be in the 60s, 70s, to lower 80s. The front will make it through the northern half of Texas by Sunday.

An interesting forecast element is the potential for frozen precipitation on Saturday and Saturday Night in the Texas Panhandle. Precipitation totals look light, with the predominant precipitation type being snow. We’ll need to keep an eye on it. Currently, there’s the potential for at least one inch of snow along and north of Interstate 40 in the Panhandle on Saturday. Of course, things will change but remember snow chances on Saturday/Sunday if you’re in the Panhandles.

Another storm system *may* bring precipitation chances into other regions of Texas Sunday night into Monday. We’ll refine the forecast as we get closer and weather models start to focus in on a particular solution. Temperatures will likely be cooler for the first half of the upcoming week.
