Eastern Half of Texas: Storms with Heavy Rain Continue Tonight

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are moving east across, well – the eastern half of Texas early this evening. Ninety-five percent of storms continue to behave with cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rainfall. A few more rambunctious thunderstorms in North Texas have produced quarter-size hail and localized wind gusts over 50 MPH just west of the D/FW Metroplex. Thunderstorms will continue in abundance overnight into Friday morning, generally from the Red River (Texoma) south to Interstate 10 (Hill Country).

All that rain will move east across Interstates 35 and 45; and continue in the Ark-La-Tex, East Texas, and Southeast Texas into Friday morning. The most widespread hazard this evening will be heavy rainfall and cloud-to-ground lightning. The severe thunderstorm threat (spinny-spinny doom-doom, large hail, damaging winds) is low, but not completely zero. Storms moving east across North Texas should mostly behave.

We’ll need to watch Southeast Texas and the Golden Triangle during the pre-dawn hours Friday just in case a complex of storms becomes a big rowdy with gusty winds and some hail. No, not softball size hail like last week – but dime to quarter size hail being thrown around with gusty winds. Heavy rain may also cause some flooding threats in the urban corridors overnight. Rain chances will conclude in Texas by lunchtime Friday, and we will begin a dry stretch as we head into the weekend.

Thanks for the update. The rain does make Texas Children’s Museum busy. We sure don’t want any spinning doom doom.😂
