Typical September Warmth with Isolated Rain Chances through the Weekend

Good morning and congratulations on making it through the work week! We’ve got a great holiday weekend forecast coming up so be sure to stick around. We’ll be looking at one more day of scattered rain chances before they drop down to isolated for the weekend.

The best chance for scattered storms this afternoon will be along and west of a Gainvestille-Dallas-College Station-Beaumont line. The relatively highest chance of getting wet will be from Austin and San ANtonio west through Junction to Del Rio. The good news is today’s activity will be hit or miss – as is usual for summertime popup storms. The highest coverage/chance of rain will be from the late morning through the middle afternoon hours. Activity should be diminishing by 6 PM and quite isolated by 8 PM. Low rain chances will continue tonight, but I think most football games tonight will be in good shape.

Isolated afternoon showers and storms will be possible this weekend west/southwest of a Childress-Temple-Houston line. Most folks will miss out on the rain. The good news is even if you end up under a popup shower it should only last 30-60 minutes before ending. For Sunday we’ll see isolated to widely scattered rain chances in Southeast Texas, the Middle Texas Coast, into the Rio Grande Valley. Other regions in Texas have very low to zero rain chances for Sunday.

A cool front will bring comfortable weather to the Texas Panhandle, West Texas, and Northwest Texas this afternoon. High temperatures should top out in the 80s with a drier airmass filtering in. The warmest locations today will be across Southeast Texas, the Middle Texas Coast, into South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley with 90s. McAllen may top out in the lower 100s this afternoon. Saturday and Sunday will be relatively warm across Texas but nothing unusually hot for early September. Overall it’s looking like this will be a pretty good Labor Day weekend.
