There is a little excitement today in Winterland if you live in the northernmost portions of the Texas Panhandle. We may be able to squeeze out a few snow showers, perhaps just enough to coat the ground in white. We expect nothing more than a dusting, even on the high end of the possibility spectrum. More likely than not, a few snow flurries this morning into early this afternoon. Sprinkles are possible across Northwest Texas and Texoma.
Forecast Texas rain totals over the next five days. Light showers are possible on Sunday in Northeast Texas, East Texas, and Southeast Texas.
Otherwise, our next chance for rain – and only light rain – will be in the eastern quarter of Texas Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Yes, some New Year’s Eve plans may need to include an umbrella. Forecast rain totals on Sunday are between one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch on the light side—certainly not a washout.
Texas Temperature Forecast
Temperatures will be on the cool side across the northern half of Texas today and tomorrow, though we’ll experience a warm-up on Saturday. A strong cold front will push southeast into Texas on Sunday, reaching the Big Bend, San Antonio, and Houston when the ball drops on New Year (late Sunday evening). Gusty northwest winds of 25 to 40 MPH and temperatures dropping into the 40s can be expected. Wind chills in the 20s and 30s are likely across the northwestern/northern half of Texas Sunday evening. The southern half of Texas Sunday afternoon, down to the southern third of Texas by Sunday evening, will enjoy high temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The cold front will end that ‘heat wave’ by New Year’s Day morning. The first several days of 2024 look mostly quiet for Texas weather.

My coat is going to need replacing before long!! It’s getting worn out just from on & off the hanger ~ Saturday & Sunday highs to be in mid to high 60’s. That’s nice, but what about those 30 degree lows at night?
