Scattered Showers and Storms Once Again Today

Another wet day is in store for portions of the state as our atypical August weather continues. Showers have already begun developing across Central Texas this morning. They’re moving pretty quickly to the north and are not producing too much rain in one spot. Widespread light rain fell overnight in Southwest Texas. As the morning goes on we should see an uptick in shower development across Central, North, Northeast, and East Texas. As we get towards the lunch hour some of these showers may begin to produce heavier rainfall totals and lightning strikes.

Flash Flood Risk Today

Flash Flood Risk Today

Rain rates should be lower than what we saw yesterday and showers should be moving north/northeast at 20 to 25 MPH. Those two factors should help keep any flash flood issues quite localized and minor. A marginal flash flooding risk does exist due to some locations having saturated soils.

The best chance for numerous showers today will be across North Texas and Northeast Texas. We’ve heard the complaints that folks in, west, and north of D/FW have missed out on rain this week. The rain chances spread north today and we should see some happier folks. There won’t be a 100 percent coverage of rain, but a good 60 to 70 percent of North Texas and Northeast Texas should get wet today.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected again today across the Concho Valley, Big Country, Northwest Texas, Hill Country, Central Texas, South-Central Texas, Southeast Texas, and East Texas. Rain chances will be lower in South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Far West Texas and the Texas Panhandle remain in the drier air and thus rain chances will remain zilch.

A cool front will begin approaching the Texas Panhandle on Friday with isolated storm chances increasing there. Scattered showers and storms will once again be possible across Northwest Texas, the Big Country, Concho Valley, Southwest Texas, North Texas, Central Texas, Northeast Texas, East Texas, and Southeast Texas. Rain chances will continue into the weekend.
