Arctic Chill Makes A Comeback In Texas

After two days of warmth, crashy the cold front has brought the arctic chill back to Texas. After enjoying shorts and a T-shirt yesterday, we’re back to pants and jacket weather. High temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing today across the Texas Panhandle east along the Red River into Texoma. Temperatures today will likely not get above the 30s across the northern half of Texas. High temperatures will occur earlier in the day in the southern half of Texas. As the cold front arrives at your location, gusty north winds and falling temperatures are expected.

All of Texas will experience a freeze tonight with our arctic chill; except for the Borderland (El Paso) and the Rio Grande Valley. The northern half of Texas will drop into the teens, with wind chills even colder. Saturday will be cold, with high temperatures generally in the 40s and 50s. The Rio Grande Valley and Borderland will make it up to near 60, so it’s not too bad for them.

Things begin to change on Sunday. Southerly winds will return to Texas, and rain chances will increase across the eastern half of Texas Sunday evening. That’ll begin a multi-day stretch of thunderstorm chances for the eastern half of Texas. Thanks to those southerly winds, warm-air advection will help temperatures slowly climb Sunday night into Monday morning. We won’t see the typical diurnal temperature curve. For most, temperatures will be safely above freezing.

Freezing Rain Threat Sunday Night

There remains to be considerable uncertainty regarding Texoma, portions of North Texas, and maybe even further south. While temperatures will tend to climb slowly on Sunday night, we may still have some locations below freezing in the regions mentioned above when rain initially begins to fall. Warm air aloft around 5,000 feet ASL should also be pulled to the surface in heavier rains.

Light ice accumulations from freezing rain are possible Sunday night into Monday morning across Texoma and North Texas, perhaps including the D/FW Metroplex.

There is at least a low chance for freezing rain in Texoma and into parts of North Texas (generally north of Interstate 20) Sunday night into Monday morning. Impacts can’t be ruled out, especially on elevated surfaces. This potential will continue to be monitored and refined in forecast updates this weekend. Regardless, temperatures will rise above freezing by mid-morning Monday, and any freezing rain will change to ‘just’ rain. That rain on Monday will also quickly melt any ice accumulations.

Goodbye, Arctic Chill; Hello, Flooding Rains?

Forecast rain totals across Texas through Wednesday morning of next week. At least one inch of rain is expected east of a Bonham-Dallas-Killeen-San Antonio line – into Arkansas and Louisiana. Flooding may become an increasingly likely hazard by Tuesday when we see several inches of rain.

Next week looks very wet for the eastern half of Texas. At least we’ll say goodbye to the arctic chill. By Wednesday morning, over five inches of rain could be seen across the Golden Triangle, Southeast Texas, and the Coastal Plains. At least one inch of rain is expected east of a Bonham-Dallas-Killeen-San Antonio line – into Arkansas and Louisiana. Flooding may become an increasingly likely hazard by Tuesday when we see several inches of rain. Severe thunderstorms are unlikely through Monday. A low-end threat for severe storms may develop on Tuesday and Wednesday in South-Central Texas. We’ll deal with that once we get passed Sunday night. Our interactive weather radar will be getting a workout!

Being the $754.6m Dollars winner of the 2023 jackpot winner 🏆 is a great gain. I vowed to help people in need of financial support, Being blessed with seven hundred fifty four million dollars really meant a lot to me and I feel like I don’t deserve it as I know the real struggle people go through in a bid to make ends meet. Therefore I voluntarily decided to donate and touch the lives of men and women who have found themselves in financial crisis, to individuals around the world according to how God leads me to do. I try to reach people randomly from different sources and modes so as to touch lives from different parts of the world. Now I’m giving you an opportunity to share your pain with me drop a message for me and I’ll reply you. Respectfully: Becky Bell]
