Rain Chances Increasing Overnight & Early Tomorrow Across Northern Texas

Rain chances continue to increase across northern Texas overnight and into early tomorrow. Ongoing showers stretched across the western half of north Texas on up into Oklahoma will continue to drift east overnight, with additional more widespread development expected by early morning as an upper level disturbance passes over the region tonight. The latest short-term model forecasts paint quite a soggy picture for tomorrow’s commute in and around the DFW metro area, although rainfall totals are expected to average about 1/2 to 1 inch or less. Severe weather is not expected, although a few rumbles of thunder will be likely. I don’t know about you, but that’s good sleeping weather and I’m really not going to want to get up and face the morning commute to work! At any rate, be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination tomorrow morning.

Current short-range models have most of the rain dissipating by tomorrow afternoon which means we’ll have a nice and mostly dry Friday evening for high school football games and other outdoor activities. Lows tonight will remain chilly across the panhandle and south plains, but remain warm and on the muggy side further south ahead of the retreating frontal boundary. Highs tomorrow will remain on the cool side across northern Texas with cloud cover and rain sticking around through mid afternoon, but the panhandle and deep south Texas will see quite a jump in highs with mid 80s and mid 90s respectively, both of which are a good 10 degrees above average for this time of the year. Looking ahead…the weekend looks warm and dry with temps increasing slightly each day. By Monday, we could see widespread 90+ degree readings across the state which may put a few records in jeopardy. Our next cool front looks to arrive by mid week although its effects on our daily highs will likely be minimal at best.
