‘Twas the day before Christmas, and across our State, the clouds are boiling, and rain gauges are irate. The kiddos are worried Santa won’t deliver, but Momma Nature’s not bitter. The rain will stop, and Santa will fly. Let’s get on with it, and tell you why! These pre-Christmas day intros have been among my most regular traditions in doing the Texas Weather Blog articles over the last fourteen years. Thank you for indulging in my Reimer-skills.
Showers and thunderstorms a’plenty this morning across the eastern two-thirds of Texas. By lunchtime, we’ll see the highest rain chances along and east of Interstate 35. By late afternoon and early evening, we’ll see most of the rain confined to the eastern third of Texas. Heavy rainfall will likely cause minor flooding. Severe storms are not expected. By midnight, we should have all rain out of Texas. We anticipate no delays in Santa’s deliveries tonight in Texas, nor any more rain in Texas through late week.
Christmas Day Onward
A cold front will move southeast across Texas tonight and on Christmas Day. Temperatures will fall back to late-December norms behind the front, along with gusty northwest winds. We’ll see winds calm down after sunset on Christmas Day. It will definitely be cool to chilly across Texas, but it won’t be anything close to an arctic outbreak. It also won’t be in the 70s and 80s. That cool weather will stick around for several days. The southern half of Texas will start climbing back up into the 60s and 70s for afternoon highs by mid-week.
We’ll be taking Christmas Day off, and there will be no Texas Weather Roundup. Our next edition will be out bright and early on Tuesday. From our family to yours, safe travels and a Merry Christmas. May your time be happy and bright. You can always find your local weather forecast in our free mobile app.

Well it can just come in and move right on out. I like the warm weather …didn’t move here for the cold.
All this rain is the best possible Christmas gift for us. We haven’t had nearly as much on our farm as surrounding areas have seen.
Also, I noticed in my FB memories that a year ago yesterday we were trying to defrost a well pipe that had frozen, hoping to have water again before all the family came for dinner and a long stay. Warm is kinda nice compared to that.
We got Rain!!! HUZZAH! Let’s plant! 🌳🌶🫑🥒🥬🥦🧄🧅🍄🥕🌽 🌸
