1015AM Update: Thundersleet and Heavy Freezing Rain in Austin to Georgetown (Central Texas)

Heavy freezing rain and #sleet is moving into the #Austin Metro. Notice the lightning strikes showing up? That means we’ve got Thundersleet and thunderstorms producing freezing rain. Potential for overpasses, bridges, and some roads to become slick and hazardous in #Travis County – and all locations nearby that are below freezing with precipitation ongoing. Please stay off the roads if at all possible! Freezing drizzle farther north in North Texas and into West Texas should be decreasing with time, with drier weather expected this afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to climb more than a couple of degrees, so little improvement in road conditions is expected. Heavier precipitation should conclude not long after lunch, and I’m hopeful temperatures will climb a couple of degrees in Austin. At last check, Austin was sitting at 31 to 32 degrees. Climbing a degree or two would be enough to melt some of the ice on elevated surfaces or prevent a full-on ice storm.
