Tomorrow in Texas: Crashy the Cold Front’s Arrival + Rain Chances

Howdy Y’all! It’s the Thursday edition of the #TexasWeatherRoundup. It will be a wet couple of days across South Texas, the Rio Grande Plains, Rio Grande Valley, up into the Coastal Bend, Coastal Plains, and Southeast Texas. Severe thunderstorms are not likely, so there’s some good news. We will sometimes see heavy rainfall, but forecast rain totals are one to three inches for South Texas. Rainfall amounts will drop off to about one-half inch by the time you reach north to Interstate 10. Not much is expected north of Interstate 10. Minor flooding in the typical trouble spots will likely occur. Widespread, high impacts are not probable.

Rain chances will continue through Saturday morning but quickly conclude Saturday afternoon as a cold front brings drier air into southeastern Texas. Speaking of #crashythecoldfront, we will briefly return to February-like weather as we head into Friday night and Saturday. Gone will be high temperatures in the 70s, and we’ll see a freeze across the northern two-thirds of Texas by Sunday morning. Saturday afternoon, high temperatures will generally be in the 40s north of Interstate 10 (northern two-thirds of Texas), with 50s across the southern third.

The good news for warm weather fans? This upcoming cool snap will last all of forty-eight hours. High temperatures will climb back into the 60s and 70s across the western half of Texas on Sunday. We’ll see upper 50s to lower 60s for the eastern half of Texas. By Monday? We’ll be in the 70s and even 80s statewide. Dry weather is expected for most, if not all, of the upcoming week. An extended period of warm, dry weather may continue until we’re nearly out of February. The risk of grass fires will quickly increase next week with our warm, dry weather – and some freeze-cured fuels after this weekend’s cooler weather.

I’d still use some caution when planning on planting freeze-sensitive plants. We’re still probably due for at least one cold snap in March, but who knows – maybe we’ll head straight into spring. I’d be weary of that, too, since that would also kick-start our spring tornado season.

A tik Tok time traveller has warned us that a F6 tornado will hit Texas on the 19th, so I wanted to give yall a heads up!

I’m not sure Tik Tok is more credible than Simpsons.. Then again… Given the weather manipulation… That kinda sounds sorta pretty much fair.. I watched the Jarell Tornado in 1997, form from Lorena,TX I even saw a 150 year old Oak Tree “body slammed” in a little town of Hamilton,TX in 1994.. Yet nobody expected an 5.1 Earthquake to hit Oklahoma
