Texas Weather: Freeze Expected Tonight in the Ark-La-Tex

Spotty showers will continue moving across the southern third of Texas this evening. Appreciable rainfall is not expected, nor is any rowdy thunderstorm behavior. Clouds will hold tough through Wednesday across the south of/southeastern half of Texas.

One of the colder nights in the last few weeks will bring a freeze Tuesday morning to the Ark-La-Tex, eastern Texoma, and parts of East Texas. The western Texas Panhandle and parts of West Texas will also drop below freezing for a few hours tonight. While a hard freeze (below 28 degrees) won’t be widespread, sensitive plants may be stressed. Those who have planted should take precautions. Frost may occur in parts of the northern half of Texas, where temperatures fall into the middle to upper 30s. A warming trend will begin on Tuesday, with no significant cold air intrusions expected throughout the work week.

Thunderstorm chances will increase Wednesday evening into Thursday morning across the eastern Texas Panhandle, in an arc extending southeast across Oklahoma through the east half of Texas. A few storms may become strong with a risk of hail. The specific corridors and extent of any severe thunderstorm potential will become more clear as we get closer to the late week. One-tenth to one inch of rainfall may occur – but overall, we expect fewer issues with the Wednesday-Thursday system than what we dealt with last week.
