Hip, hip, hooray, it’s Humpday! Not only are we halfway through the work week, but we’re all climbing above freezing, too! After several days of what the northerners would call ‘cool weather’, we’re happy to announce a return to something a little more pleasant by Texas standards. This afternoon, we’ll see temperatures up into the 60s in West Texas, the Trans-Pecos, Big Bend, and Borderland in Far West Texas.
Today, the rest of the state will reach the upper 30s to middle 50s. Tonight will be ten to fifteen degrees warmer than this morning. Thursday will be our warmest day through Sunday. High temperatures will soar into the 60s and 70s across the southern two-thirds of Texas. We may even see an 80-degree reading or two!
A strong cold front will push south into Texas Thursday night and Friday. We’ll see another very cold morning on both Friday and Saturday. Afternoon temperatures each day will remain in the 30s across the northern half of Texas, with 40s and 50s further south. The Rio Grande Valley will probably make it into the 60s.
Wet (and Icy?) Weather returns starting Sunday
Dry weather is expected across Texas through Sunday morning. That all changes Sunday night as we switch into a weather pattern for most of the upcoming week. Next week, we’ll experience warmer temperatures, and with more moisture, the chance for heavier rainfall. However, the onset of the event from Sunday evening through Monday morning could be… interesting.
We’ll see southeast winds pumping moisture and warmer temperatures north, but we may still be below freezing in parts of Northwest Texas and Texoma as precipitation begins. Freezing rain would be likely, with ice accumulations causing travel disruptions. How impactful and probable that scenario is will be assessed over the coming days. It is possible some of that icy mischief could also occur in the Big Country and North Texas for a time Sunday night. Regardless, temperatures will rise above freezing Monday morning (if not late Sunday night as temperatures slowly climb). We’ll deal with all ‘rain’ and thunderstorms further south, across the eastern half of Texas. After Monday morning, we should remain winter-mischief-free with warmer weather and above-average chances for rain.
Can we just pick a season and stick with it already
In Texas!???..ha
NOOOOOOOO! it hasn’t even gotten cold yet.
Stay away cold
wC 14 tonight here!
Oh, please. After what we’ve just gone through, this next cold front looks like a weakling by comparison.
