Texas: Wave Goodbye To Snow As The Warm-up Starts Tomorrow!

The worst of our latest arctic outbreak is behind us. We’re off to a frigid start across Texas, and temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 20s this afternoon across the northern half of Texas. Winter precipitation has concluded; we don’t see more of that on our horizon.

Even though temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing in the northern half of Texas today, abducent sunshine should help drastically improve any icy roadways this afternoon. Temperatures across Texas will plunge below freezing tonight, so be mindful of patchy slick spots after sunset.

A more drastic climb up the temperature rollercoaster begins on Wednesday. All of Texas will rise above freezing on Wednesday afternoon. We’ll see 60s across the western third of Texas, with 30s, 40s, and 50s for the eastern two-thirds of Texas. Wednesday night will be warmer, but some locations will drop into the upper 20s. Thursday will be our warmest day through the weekend. High temperatures across the southern half of Texas will rise into the 60s and 70s! We’ll see 40s and 50s across the northern half of the state.

Thursday Night through Saturday

Another strong cold front begins plunging south into Texas late Thursday and Friday. That’ll bring the chill back to the state, with high temperatures in the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s on Friday and Saturday. By Friday and Saturday mornings, we’ll see very cold temperatures in the teens, twenties, and lower thirties. It’ll be cold, but we won’t go down this whole ‘below zero with lake effect snow’ storyline again.

Next week is looking warm to above-average in the temperature department. With much warmer weather on the way, we’re also looking active next week with multiple rain chances across (at least) the eastern half of Texas. Some long-range weather model data is showing a favorable pattern for beneficial rainfall! Baldy’s head will be thankful for the warmer weather.

Thank you to the influx of folks who have joined us during the last week of wintery mischief across Texas. We’ve seen a plethora of new subscribers on our Texas Weather Center YouTube channel, and a number of you have also downloaded our free Texas Storm Chasers mobile app. Welcome to the family, and we’re thankful to all those long-timers who continue to join us, too! Have a great Tuesday!

  2. Angie Patak

    And rain right ?

    • Texas Storm Chasers

Angie Patak Yup! Next week is looking wet across (at least) the eastern half of Texas.

  3. Robert Haston

Nooooooo I love this weather. I’d take this for 100 any day.

    • Krystella Mari

Robert Haston Right. We finally got cold and it’s going away. I want it to get cold and STAY cold.

    • Kim Loucks

Robert Haston so you like snow and ice where you can’t walk or you can’t drive and it’s so cold you have to keep your pipes dripping and your animals can’t get outside and enjoy it and the stores are empty of food and the power has chances of blackouts… no thanks… if you like that you might move to the east!

    • Robert Haston

Ice is actually nothing new to SA. Born and raised here and we almost always have at least one hard freeze and most years even a light ice accumulation like yesterday. I remember helping my dad as a kid dropping pipes… again nothing new or hard. The whole stores being emptied is just SA over reacting honestly being selfish and hoarding. This was never going to be a shut down the city event and most stores were fully restocking each morning (went yesterday around 3pm and there was plenty of food everywhere). Honestly believe ercot was just siding on the side of caution and wanted to be able to say “we warned you, you should have prepared”.

    • Katya Butler

Krystella Mari let see you outside feeding 100 animals and bringing them water from inside in buckets twice a day in this weather. you’re only enjoying it because you’re one of those people who are on your couch inside all day able to do nothing 😜

    • Krystella Mari

Katya Butler wow. You got offended and I wasn’t even replying to your comment.

    • Ťřę Ję

      Katya Butler 🙄 and

    • Jesse Newberry

You’re welcome to follow the cold weather north.

    • Ginger Reid-Schuelke

Robert Haston Montana has -57 wind chills, plenty of Vaca cabins available…grin.

    • Deej Deej

Katya Butler yep, those that have no reason to venture out of their homes love this nasty cold

    • Ťřę Ję

Deej Deej go live in florida then. 🤭

    • Ginger Reid-Schuelke

Krystella Mari lots of states can accommodate you on that. Texas, not so much.

    • Robert Haston

Ginger Reid-Schuelke if I had the money and time to take off i would.

    • Kathleen Harrison

      Robert Haston you’re a party pooper. 😂🥶

    • Stephen Casper

Katya Butler I work out in it. I much prefer 20° over 100°. I’ll take being a little chilly over heat stroke.

    • Stephen Casper

Deej Deej I say the same thing about summer people when it’s over 100. I have to work in it. Most of them say they love while sitting in a pool. I’ll take this any day. People have preferences.

    • Deej Deej

Stephen Casper well that makes sense when you work outside but it is still to cold

    • Deej Deej

Stephen Casper I just do not handle the cold real well, I got frost bite in my toes and fingers, so they hurt a lot when its cold and I can not get warm

    • Stephen Casper

Deej Deej I can see that. Both can suck.

  4. Kelly Michelle Johnston
