Crashy the Cold Front Slams into Texas Tomorrow with Snow & Storm Chances

Today's unseasonably warm high temperatures across Texas with 70s and 80s, except cooler in the Panhandle.

A tale of two seasons on Saturday across Texas as a cold front moves south. Temperatures in the 60s, 70s, and 80s across the Southeastern half of Texas will give way to 30s, 40s, and 50s along with strong northwest winds.

Unseasonably warm weather will remain in Texas for another day, but it’ll finally start feeling a bit more like December soon. Today will feature high temperatures in the 70s and 80s across most of Texas. The southeastern half of Texas will enjoy that warm airmass on Saturday before a strong cold front comes crashing in from the north. Gusty northwest winds up to 50 MPH are expected with the front tomorrow into tomorrow night; so you’ll know when it arrives at your location. Outdoor decorations may not enjoy the wind.

Snow and Storm Chances Tomorrow

Simulated weather model radar for Texas on Saturday; showing light snow in the Texas Panhandle in the morning, with scattered storms in East Texas and Southeast Texas during the afternoon. Activity moves out of Texas late Saturday night.

There’s a chance for a few hours of light snow in the Texas Panhandle during the morning hours on Saturday. Most weather model guidance suggests it’ll be a non-event, but a few more aggressive models suggest that a few heavier snow bands may drop a dusting to one inch of snow. We’ll monitor short-term trends today to see if the forecast needs to be revised.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon along the southward-moving cold front as it moves into the Ark-La-Tex, East Texas, along with Southeast Texas and the Golden Triangle. There will be enough instability and wind shear aloft to support the chance for stronger thunderstorms with hail and gusty winds. Like the last few events, it appears that mistimed ingredients may limit tomorrow’s severe weather threat. Hopefully, that’ll be the case, but we’ll monitor trends over the next 24 hours.

Saturday’s severe storm risk

Thunderstorm chances will conclude Saturday night as storms move off the Upper Texas Coast and east into Louisiana. The cold front will likely remain ‘dry’ further west as it moves into South Texas late tomorrow evening. Forecast rain totals are not impressive. Projected rain amounts over one-tenth of an inch are confined to the Piney Woods, East Texas, the Golden Triangle, and Southeast Texas. Some lucky folks may end up above one-half inch of rain, mostly closer to the Louisiana border or under a stronger thunderstorm.

Sunday through Mid-week

Sunday will begin a multi-day stretch of comparatively cooler, but seasonably appropriate temperatures across the state. High temperatures will range from the upper 40s to the lower 60s, with a warming trend on Monday introducing more 60s and 70s. Any warming trend will be short-lived as another cold front begins pushing in on Tuesday.

Indications in long-range weather model land indicate precipitation chances may return to the western half of Texas for mid-week. Temperatures in the Panhandle and West Texas may support some winter precipitation.

I sure hope so——it IS DECEMBER and kinda get aggravated when the words “strong cold front” are used for only a drop in temperature of maybe 10-20 degrees, from 75 to 55! I miss WINTER!
I’m sure people would tell me to move, and in a few years I plan to do just that, so I can enjoy 4 seasons!
South Central Texas is actually kinda boring weather wise! But, always follow Texas Storm Chasers and appreciate all the hard and dangerous work you all do!

You need to specify where in Texas? Because in Denison we are sunshine and 50s and at night in the thirties with clear skies. Where is it suppose to snow?

Should we go to the German festival in Tomball, Texas tomorrow or not? It’s a long drive. Clarity, please.

    • Adam Daugherty

Clifford S Jones I don’t think they can make decisions for you…

    • Clifford S Jones

Adam Daugherty that’s a dumb comment. No one asked them to, troll.

    • Adam Daugherty

Clifford S Jones you need to reread your comment….because someone did….it was you.

    • Rachael Galaway

Clifford S Jones I would still go, it’s likely going to be afternoon!

    • Clifford S Jones

Adam Daugherty Let me explain it to you. People look at weather forecasts for information to help THEM take decisions. That is the assumption, not that they want others to decide. They want more clarity, because the forecast is very vague. We may or may not get severe thunderstorms somewhere in East Texas. That is not information that anyone can form a decision about. Others in this thread have also said as much.
