Many have asked, and we’re happy to share that we have finally created a graphic with a Texas regional map and geographic locations across Texas. Now, if I mention the Golden Triangle, Borderland, Concho Valley, or the Rio Grande Plains – we have a reference you can look at! This graphic is not an all-inclusive list of every regional nickname or reference.
For example, where we have West Texas, one can divide that up into the South Plains, Rolling Plains, and Caprock. With over two dozen regions already listed, we didn’t want to overdo it. Instead, this graphic will help reference the geographic and political locations we mentioned in our weather forecasts and coverage.
Consider it a ‘help me’ guide that folks can use to follow along. Unlike our map, geographical regions do not usually follow the outlines of a county. Again, this graphic is a quick reference guide to Texas geographical regions and nicknames. I’ll update it occasionally to include more specific information as needed.
I’m sure we’ll find new regional nicknames that will have to be added to the graphic in future updates. However, we’ll also try our best to stick to the names listed on our maps. I don’t even want to get into the county names – seeing as Texas has 254 counties. We’ll typically reference counties during severe weather coverage. As time allows, we’ll compile a graphic with all the county names in Texas. No, I don’t even know all the county names across Texas. That takes more brain power than my bald-head can process.
