Squall line developing in Northeast & Eastern North Texas

A line of thunderstorms has formed from near New Boston to Quitman to just west of Athens. Storms are moving east, and additional development further southwest into the Brazos Valley is likely by midnight. Stronger storms may produce damaging straight-line winds and small hail. A tornado cannot be ruled out, but the threat for tornadoes is far lower than our neighbors out in the Mid-South.
. Thunderstorm development is being caused by a cold front moving south/southeast. Strong northwesterly winds and a rapid drop in temperatures can be expected once the front arrives at any given location. The front will rapidly move south tonight and tomorrow morning – moving into the Gulf of Mexico by tomorrow afternoon. This weekend will be much cooler across Texas.
