Isolated Storms through Independence Day; Hot and Humid

Showers are underway again this morning across the Texas Panhandle. There are a few lightning strikes out on the Oklahoma border but otherwise activity is light. The next three months are typically the warmest of the year. Welcome to July folks – you’ll be living in a furnace for a while. High temperatures this afternoon will top out in the middle to upper 90s across much of Texas. Laredo and Southwest Texas will top out in the low 100s. A couple popup storms are expected along the coast in Southeast Texas this afternoon. A couple storms may develop this afternoon in the Panhandle on residual outflow boundaries. Finally the best chance for scattered storms this afternoon will be in Far West Texas. We’re starting to get into monsoon season and with that comes better storm chances in Far West Texas and in the Southwest United States.

TX Map

This weekend and Independence Day are looking hot. High temperatures will range from the upper 90s to lower 100s. Heat index values along and east of Interstate 35 could top out in the 105-110 degree range. Isolated storms will be possible this weekend. Depending on how things set up we could see a slightly higher coverage of storms on Monday from the Texas Panhandle southeast through North Texas and Northeast Texas. Regardless we’re not expecting a washout for festivities.
