Fire Weather Conditions Across the Panhandle Today – Cold Front Arrives Monday Night With A Chance For Storms

Good morning and happy Sunday!  Today’s weather highlights will be the potential, yet again, for wildfires across the panhandle region, ongoing rain and showers across southeast Texas and the arrival of a cold front late Monday night.  Clouds will scatter out later today across the panhandle and rolling plains region and temps will quickly warm into the 70s and low 80s by the afternoon.  Winds will remain quite breezy with gusts around 35mph and very low humidity values which means another day of Red Flag Warnings across the region.  This area of the state, while not yet under widespread drought conditions, desperately needs some rain…but unfortunately the long-range outlook is not favorable in that respect.

Rain chances continue for parts of east and southeast Texas today.  Could hear a few rumbles of thunder, but the overall pattern today will feature just periods of light to moderate rain…a few isolated downpours…then the system moves out by later this evening.

Highs today will be unseasonably warm across the panhandle and western Texas where temps will quickly rise into the 70s and low 80s by this afternoon.  Continued cloud cover across the eastern half of the state will keep temps knocked down a bit, but still warmer than we saw yesterday. Lows tonight will also be warmer across the eastern half of the state thanks to continued cloud cover and increasing humidity values.

A cold front is forecast to arrive late Monday night which will bring chances for showers and a few storms for northeast and eastern Texas as the front moves through overnight.  The greatest threat for severe weather Monday evening and overnight is expected to remain northeast of the region across northern Arkansas and southern Missouri, but a few isolated severe storms with the threat of some hail and damaging winds can’t be ruled out.  We’ll have updates out on the severe weather possibility with tomorrow morning’s blog update, so be sure to check back!
