Fall Weather Arrives in Texas for First Day of Fall (Tomorrow!)

Surface temperatures across Texas at 6:30 PM. Temperatures north of a cool front are dropping into the 60s and 70s along with much drier air.

After one of the hottest days of the year on Monday, we’re finally getting to enjoy ‘first fall preview.’ At this writing, the surface cold front extends from Eagle Pass to San Antonio to Bryan to Lufkin. Summer weather continues south of the cool front with temperatures in the 90s and dewpoints in the 70s.

Gusty north winds are ushering in a much drier airmass behind the cool front. The front itself is sagging on down south but without much oomph in its step. Worry not, South Texas! The cool front will continue moving south tonight and tomorrow morning. Scattered thunderstorms are possible overnight and tomorrow morning as the cold front moves south through the Coastal Bend, South Texas, and into the Rio Grande Valley. Gusty winds and small hail are possible, but widespread severe weather isn’t likely.

Tonight’s Low-Temperature Forecast

Those lucky folks who have already had the cold front arrive are in for a fall-like night in the weather department. North winds will continue to usher in a very dry airmass along with cooler temperatures. The Texas Panhandle and West Texas will have temperatures down into the 40s by tomorrow morning. I wouldn’t be surprised if a sheltered location or two end up making a run at 39 degrees.

Tomorrow

Wednesday's high temperature forecast

The cold front should make it to the International Border by lunchtime Wednesday. Humidity values will plummet with its arrival, and temperatures will be a good ten to twenty degrees cooler than today. Beautiful weather is forecast for all of Texas tomorrow afternoon with much lower humidity and pleasant temperatures. There will be an elevated risk for wildland fires (grass, brush, etc.) due to the lower humidity. Rain chances will end tomorrow afternoon in South Texas and the RGV after the cold front pushes south.

Thursday's Low Temperature Forecast

All of Texas will be feeling pretty fall-like Wednesday Night and Thursday Morning. Temperatures across the state will range from the upper 40s in sheltered locations up into the 60s on the immediate coastline. Everyone in-between will enjoy temperatures falling into the 50s. It will be a great ‘first fall preview’ before the inevitable ‘second summer’ arrives this weekend and next week.
