Cold Front Arrives Tonight & Tomorrow With Chances For Storms

Looks like the cap and dry air won today’s atmospheric battle and no storms were able to develop across central or north Texas. But we will have a few chances again tomorrow…this time, further south across central Texas.  A strong cold front will begin pushing into the panhandle late tonight, through north Texas before noon tomorrow, then into central Texas by tomorrow afternoon.  It’s likely that a line of storms will form along the frontal boundary as it moves into central Texas tomorrow afternoon.  Storm coverage does not look all that impressive, but we could see a few of them become strong to severe, especially over parts of east Texas tomorrow afternoon.  The storm prediction center has placed a portion of east Texas…Marshall, Carthage, Nacogdoches, Lufkin and Jasper…under a Slight Risk for severe weather tomorrow with hail and damaging winds being the primary threats.  Further west…Houston, Huntsville, College Station, Austin, San Antonio…you’ll be under a Marginal Risk for seeing a few moderate to strong storms develop as the front arrives.

Screen Shot 2015-04-02 at 7.33.04 PMHGXDaytime highs on Friday will obviously be impacted by the passage of the front.  Folks in the panhandle will enjoy temps in the 50s, south plains and northwest Texas will see highs in the 60s, north central and northeast Texas will see highs reach the mid to upper 70s.  Ahead of the front across central and south central Texas, highs will reach the 80s by the afternoon.  The Rio Grande Valley area will see the warmest temps in the 90s before the front arrives by mid morning on Saturday.  Lows Saturday morning across the panhandle will be crispy and in the 30s, with 40s expected across the south plains and north Texas.  Folks across south central and south Texas will remain warmer and in the 50s with low 60s across deep south Texas.  It’s definitely that time of year when we get to use all seasons of clothing in one week!
