Above-average temperatures with only light rain chances for the end of January

There isn’t much to say regarding the weather in Texas over the next couple of days. Today and Tomorrow will be toasty (by January standards) and pretty nice weather-wise. We’ll have light rain chances Friday Night and the first half of Saturday across Texas’s eastern third. Sunday through Tuesday will see drier weather prevail along with temperatures climbing above seasonal averages. Fire weather may become a concern on Saturday with strong winds and low humidity in Texas’s western half. Next Wednesday may also be a fire weather day.

Forecast high temperatures over the next five days.

Friday Night and Saturday are looking windy across Texas as a dynamic storm system passes by to our north. Rain chances will be highest across the eastern third of Texas. Overall, rain totals are expected to remain quite light. This is not expected to be a big rainmaker. Rain chances should be ending by early Saturday afternoon as a cold front quickly moves east of Texas. Winds will be noticeably gusty Friday night and Saturday. Some wind gusts may exceed 50 miles per hour in West Texas and the Panhandle with 40+ MPH winds farther south and east. Temperatures will get pushed back down toward seasonal averages behind the front, but only for a short time.

Already watching next Wednesday for a weather maker.

Temperatures and moisture levels will start increasing next week ahead of an impressive upper-level storm system expected to move across the Plains of the United States mid-week. Even though it’s a week out, I feel comfortable forecasting a major blizzard for someone in the Central or Northern Plains around Wednesday or Thursday. Not only could there be a good foot or two of snow, but wind gusts over 60 MPH are a good bet too. If my prediction verifies, I might be taking a trip north to experience it. There is way too much uncertainty to determine just how our weather in Texas will be influenced. A period of strong winds is a good bet. Still, we’ll have to wait until we get closer to determine specific (if any) precipitation chances.
