The weekend rain is gone, but Texas is starting off on the chilly side of the thermometer this late April morning. That very well may be the last cold front the southern half of Texas sees until September or October. Spotty showers will continue across South Texas through the day. Most of Texas will be in for a beautiful day with partly cloudy to clear skies. Mostly clear skies tonight will give way to morning stratus, but that’ll burn off by lunchtime Tuesday.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible between 4 PM and 9 PM Tuesday in Northwest Texas and the Big Country. We’ll be playing the ‘dryline game’ where if a storm can punch through the cap, it’ll throw out hail and do pretty things with storm structure for storm chasers for a few hours. As the cap reestablishes itself a couple of hours after sunset, the storms get squashed back into oblivion. That’s the game we’ll be playing on a daily basis for the second half of the week. On Thursday, those isolated storm chances may expand south through the Concho Valley and Edwards Plateau. We may see some uptick in light rain chances for the eastern half of Texas on Friday, but we’ll refine that in tomorrow’s forecast. A repeat of this past weekend’s widespread deluge is not expected.
Good news for those who prefer warmer weather! Temperatures will warm back up across Texas over the next few days. High temperatures today will range from the upper 60s to the middle 80s. By mid to late week, the entire state will be back into the 80s and 90s. An unsettled weather pattern will keep at least isolated daily thunderstorm chances through early next week east of the dryline. As usual with ‘dryline setups ‘, we may only see one or two storms a day – but they’ll likely be throwing out chunks of ice.
