As we’ve been talking about for several days now, a tropical disturbance out in the Gulf of Mexico will approach the south Texas coast early this week bringing beneficial rainfall to much of our costal and central Texas regions over the next several days. The highest rainfall totals, in the range of 3-6 inches, will be located along the middle coast down into south Texas with periodic widespread rain chances expected over the next several days.  Some areas across south Texas could see some isolated higher total rainfall amounts of 8+ inches by the time this system moves out later this week, but we have to stress that confidence in these extreme rainfall totals is not very high at this time.  As you head inland and further north into central Texas, lesser amounts are expected, but we still expect to see anywhere from 1-3 inches likely Monday through Thursday.  Most of this will be in the form of scattered pop-up showers and storms during the daytime hours as the atmosphere heats up and taps into the very abundant moisture that will be situated across southern and central Texas.  No severe weather is expected, but we will have the threat of localized very heavy rain showers which could lead to some street flooding off and on over the next several days. Unfortunately, the further north you go, the rain chances decrease with only scattered to widely scattered showers and storms expected primarily Tuesday through Thursday.  If you end up under a good heavy rain shower, you’ll likely get a nice soaking, while folks a few miles away may end up with much less…so very hit or miss activity expected for north Texas residents.  Temps will also trend cooler this week overall due to extensive cloud cover and rainfall activity.  Highs in the low 80s to low 90s are in the forecast through at least Thursday before we begin heating back up by the end of the work week ahead.
