Scattered Showers and Storms Possible Again Today

Yesterday’s round of storms across north Central Texas left an outflow boundary in place from around Clarksville to Tyler and down into the Waco/Killeen area.  This along with a subtle upper level trough overhead will aid in sparking scattered showers this morning across northeast Texas and all along the boundary by early afternoon primarily east and southeast of the DFW metro area.  It’s not expected to be a repeat of yesterday’s activity, but will still bring the chance for seeing a few strong to severe cells with downburst winds, lightning and isolated heavy downpours as the main threats.  Southeast Texas will also see scattered shower and storm development which will also carry the threat of seeing downburst winds. Folks out on area lakes across these regions this afternoon will need to keep an eye out on nearby storm development as outflow winds from these storms can become quite gusty and pose a threat for boaters.

Highs today will be seasonal across the eastern half of the state and slightly above seasonal for the western half of the state.  No Heat Advisories are currently in place; however, parts of southeast Texas in and around the Houston/Galveston metro area will see brief periods this afternoon when Heat Index readings will top 106 to 109 degrees.  We’ll also see high heat index values across parts of deep south Texas between Brownsville and up into the Del Rio area where it will likely feel 105 to 110 by later this afternoon.  If you’re out and about during this time of the day, make sure you stay hydrated and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Looking ahead…high pressure will once again become the main forecast feature for the work week ahead which will keep rain chances at a minimum across most of the state.  Best chances for seeing rain this week will be across the eastern half of the state today, then isolated chances for showers and storms to pop up across parts of the panhandle and western Texas later this week.
