Another round of rain and storms are expected across several regions of Texas today. Stronger storms may produce hail, localized damaging winds, constant lightning, and flooding. Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle picked up seven inches of rain yesterday. We also saw two to four inches of rain in western Bexar County in South-Central Texas. Those hefty rain totals show tropical moisture is in place and supportive of heavy rain.
Today’s highest chance for scattered thunderstorms will be in Northwest Texas, the Big Country, Concho Valley, Permian Basin, North Texas, Hill Country, Central Texas, the Edwards Plateau, Brazos Valley, and Southeast Texas. We expect the highest coverage of showers and storms from late this morning through sunset. Thunderstorm coverage and intensity will decrease after sunset with the loss of daytime heating. Some activity will persist into the morning hours on Wednesday. A few storms may be severe, with excessive rainfall and flooding risk. Hopefully, heavier rains fall in areas that need it, and we can fill up some of the lakes across the western half of Texas.
Texas Temperature Forecast
Cloud cover and rain chances will help keep the northeastern half of Texas on the cool side this afternoon. High temperatures in the upper 70s and 80s are expected. It’ll feel pretty muggy, though. The southwestern half of Texas will top out in the 90s to 107 degrees. It will be a little warmer tomorrow for the northeastern half of Texas. Thursday through Saturday will feature summer, drier weather across Texas with afternoon temperatures in the 90s and 100s. High soil moisture across the eastern two-thirds of Texas will result in oppressive humidity.
Rain Next Week?
We may see some increase in rain chances next week, with some long-range hints of more tropical moisture pushing into Texas in about a week to ten days. Otherwise, we’ll keep an eye on the Panhandle on Saturday for isolated severe storms.

Too bad far west Texas isn’t getting any rain. Hasn’t rained at my house in over a year. I don’t think it’s ever going to rain here again.
