Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake rattles the Permian Basin

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred at 7:55 PM this evening. The quake’s epicenter was located 11 miles north of Stanton and at a depth of 4.8 miles. The earthquake was felt across the Permian Basin and portions of the surrounding. We’ve heard reports of shaking across the Permian Basin, West-Central Texas, Big Country, and Concho Valley.

There are unconfirmed reports of structures with foundation damage in Midland. It doesn’t take much shaking to cause a foundation to crack or shift. A magnitude 4.5 earthquake is not typically strong enough to cause significant damage to infrastructure or structures.
