4/26/2013 • Wind-Driven Hail Pounds Car in Oklahoma!

Texas Storm Chasers’s David Reimer and Paige Burress were blasted by wind-driven hail a few miles north of El Reno, OK. Radar reflectivity showed a very powerful supercell thunderstorm rapidly approaching their position. Seeing as the tornado threat was minimal, the couple chose to punch the storm’s core. Hail up to half-dollar size was blown horizontally for nearly five minutes. Our instruments on the vehicle’s roof measured a 59 MPH wind gust during the storm’s worst. Hail became so numerous that it covered the road and made it icy! By the time all was said and done, it looked like it had snowed!
