Slightly less hot weather as we head toward July

The upper-level heat dome responsible for our unpleasant summer heat across Texas this week is beginning to break down and shift to the west. That will bring in a slightly less hot temperature forecast across Texas over the next five to seven days. Make no mistake, it will still be toasty – it is about to be July after all, but we’re hoping for about a six to ten degrees drop in high temperatures by early next week.

With the pattern shift, we’re also expecting an uptick in monsoonal activity this weekend and early next week across the western third to the northwestern half of Texas. Day-to-day precipitation chances will vary, but we’re likely to start seeing increased cloud cover at times as a result. This does not appear to be a repeat of June in the severe weather gone wild department, but any summertime thunderstorms will produce dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning and gusty winds.

We’ll keep an eye on the data and start pinpointing who may have some rain chances as we get into the weekend and early next week. If you want some of that information now, just open up the free Texas Storm Chasers mobile app for your local seven-day forecast.
