Rain chances continuing through Thursday Night [Texas Weather Roundup 3/8/2023]

A cool front has stalled out and brought cooler weather and a few storms to the northwestern half of Texas overnight. Those of you across the southern-eastern half of Texas are probably wondering what I’ve been taking with spring-like conditions underway. I’m afraid that won’t be changing over the next five days, as our cool front has just about run out of steam to push any farther south. This afternoon and tonight, we’ll see a few storms across the Permian Basin, Big Country, Texoma, North Texas, and Northeast Texas – much like this morning. A couple of storms may produce pocket-change-size hail. A small break in storm chances will occur Thursday morning into early Thursday afternoon. Still, we’ll see storms become more likely Thursday evening into Thursday night across North Texas, Northeast Texas, and East Texas. A few storms may be strong to severe, with pocket-change hail and gusty winds. A rogue severe storm can’t be ruled out in the Edwards Plateau Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will remain above average for most locations through Saturday. Our next upper-level storm system will return windy conditions, greater wildfire danger across the western half of Texas, and a slight chance for storms in Texoma and Northeast Texas. A cool front may bring slightly cooler conditions to the northern half of Texas on Sunday, but no arctic blasts are expected.
