Freezing Fog Tonight & Saturday Morning [Texas Weather Roundup for February 3, 2023]

Patchy freezing fog and residual moisture on roads have resulted in a nasty but paper-thin layer of ice on bridges across the D/FW Metroplex, Big Country, Northwest Texas, and even across parts of Waco this morning. Temperatures will climb well above freezing by 10 AM, and we’ll see any icy mischief subside by mid-morning.

On the not-so-good news front, we’re expecting more freezing fog tonight from the Concho Valley, Hill Country, and Central Texas north to the Red River – including the Big Country, North Texas, Northwest Texas, Texoma, and Northeast Texas. Fog is likely farther south, where temperatures will remain above freezing into Saturday morning. Freezing fog, like freezing drizzle, can deposit a thin layer of black ice on exposed objects like bridges. We may have similar travel difficulties again Saturday morning, so plan accordingly.

After tonight’s freezing fog repeat, we’re looking at a much warmer and windy weekend across Texas. Those warmer conditions and mainly dry weather will continue into Monday. Our next upper-level storm system looks to arrive Monday night into Tuesday and stick around through Thursday. Some winter weather may occur in the Texas Panhandle, but this upcoming system will definitely be much warmer – with the chance for thunderstorms that don’t involve sleet. Let’s enjoy this weekend and the warmer weather it will bring.
