Daily rain chances continue this week across Texas

Happy #MothersDay, #Texas! We will be in a fairly stagnant weather pattern over the next several days. We won’t have much in the way of upper-level winds, but with abundant tropical moisture and no ‘high-pressure heat dome’ nearby, we’ll deal with isolated to scattered showers and #storms for much of the week. I doubt activity will be as widespread as we’ve seen over the last several days, but much of Texas will likely get at least one opportunity for more rain before we reach mid-week.

Without those upper-level #winds to help #thunderstorms organize, we’re not looking at significant severe storm issues through mid-week in Texas. Any summertime storm can produce dangerous to-ground lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and heavy rainfall. With so much moisture, we can’t rule out tropical funnel clouds – but those rarely touch down.

Our primary issue this week, aside from lightning, will be the possibility of localized flash flooding. If we see any heavier storms pop up over an area that has already seen plenty of rain this month, it will not take long for runoff to occur. That runoff can result in street flooding and rapid rises in creeks and streams.

Temperatures across Texas will remain on the ‘cooler’ side of the spectrum for May thanks to all the cloud cover and rain chances, with highs in the 70s and 80s for much of the work week. It’ll still be humid, so it won’t feel super-duper pleasant.
