6/23/2023 8PM Texas Severe Weather Nowcast

An isolated severe storm over the Houston metro is producing damaging winds, small hail, and heavy rain. That’ll likely chill out in the next hour or two as we get past sunset. Storms in East Texas are weakening and are no longer severe. It is a different story back in western Texas.

A small cluster of severe storms just brought winds over 70 MPH to San Angelo, and those storms are moving east toward Eden and Menard with a continued damaging wind risk. A severe storm brought softball size hail to Lubbock, especially the south sides of town, a bit earlier. That storm is moving southeast toward Post but has weakened. A nasty storm is over Plainview and Interstate 27, moving east/southeast toward Floydada with very large hail and damaging winds.

Other Big Country and Northwest Texas storms may continue producing large hail and damaging winds over the next few hours. Those storms are generally moving east/northeast. We’ll have to see if we end up with a cluster of eastward-moving storms this evening in Northwest Texas, the Big Country, or the Concho Valley. If that cluster forms, it may produce damaging winds as it moves east in the next few hours. If we don’t see upscale growth, we may start quieting by 10PM to Midnight.
