Flash Flood Warning Issued for San Antonio Metro

Flash Flood Warning for San Antonio Metro north to Bulverde and Spring Branch. Hourly rainfall rates are over 3 inches – flash flooding is likely to develop soon! The threat will likely expand north along I-35 through New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Austin soon(ish).

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Bexar County in south central Texas…
Central Comal County in south central Texas…

* Until 100 AM CDT.

* At 949 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
producing flash flooding.

San Antonio, San Antonio Int Airport, Stinson Municipal Airport,
Canyon Lake Dam, Canyon Lake, Leon Valley, Helotes, Fair Oaks
Ranch, Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, Bulverde, Shavano Park,
Hollywood Park, Cross Mountain, Lytle, Olmos Park, Somerset, The
Dominion, Timberwood Park and Leon Springs.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
