The National Weather Service office in New Braunfels has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Hill Country and Austin Metro. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Balcones Escarpment and adjacent lower plains including San Antonio Metro. These go into effect late tonight and continue until lunchtime on Thursday. The main issue will be freezing rain and sleet once temperatures drop below freezing. Icy roads and bridges are a substantial threat in the Winter Storm Warning and possible in the winter weather advisory area. Travel issues are expected in Central Texas into the Hill Country including the Austin and San Antonio Metro Areas late tonight into Thursday morning.

FREEZING BY MIDNIGHT. AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND MOIST GULF
AIR WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE PRECIPITATION ABOVE THE COLD AIR NEAR
THE SURFACE…WITH THE RESULT EXPECTED TO BE A MIX OF FREEZING
RAIN AND SLEET ACROSS THE WARNING AND ADVISORY AREAS. THE MAIN
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO AREAS IS A LONGER PERIOD BELOW
FREEZING…AND HIGHER FORECAST PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS…IN THE
