A WINTER STORM WARNING is now in effect for portions of North and Northeast Texas from 6 PM this evening into Thursday morning. Graham, Stephenville, Comanche, Goldthwaite, Hamilton, Hillsboro, Cleburne, Waxahachie, Fort Worth, Dallas, Denton, McKinney, Decatur, Graham, Bowie, St. Jo, Gainesville, Sherman, Denison, Bonham, Greenville, Terrell, Kaufman, Canton, Mineola, Sulphur Springs, Paris, Clarksville, Mount Vernon, Mount Pleasant, Pittsburg, DeKalb, New Boston, Texarkana, Atlanta, Linden, Jefferson, and Marshall are all included in this upgrade. A Winter Storm Warning means significant accumulations of snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected to cause nearly impossible travel conditions by tonight into Thursday. Some power outages will be possible due to gusty north winds and ice-covered tree branches and power lines.

Overnight weather model runs have continued to increase precipitation totals while temperatures are below freezing tonight. The result will be a high-impact and significant winter storm across North and Northeast Texas. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches will be likely northwest of the D/FW Metroplex towards Wichita Falls with up to 1 inch of sleet accumulation in the D/FW Metroplex extending into Northeast Texas. Freezing rain accumulations in some areas will likely approach 0.25″. Remember it only takes 0.01″ of ice to turn roads into skating rinks.
