Sunday Evening Update & Overnight Storm Forecast

2016-07-03_21-30-47

A line of showers and strong storms extends from Bowie to Jacksboro to just east of Breckenridge. As expected storms are starting to weaken as they move east towards Interstate 35. The line segment over Montague county and over Palo Pinto county has weakened quickly. The cell over Jack county remains severe but is also slowly weakening. Wind gusts up to 55-60 MPH remain possible around Jacksboro. An isolated cell near Anson may produce small hail and localized gusty winds. ALl this activity is moving east/southeast around 35 MPH.

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms have formed in the western Texas Panhandle. One cell is crossing Highway 54 between Dalhart and Stratford. A second cell is about 15 miles west of Hereford. Both cells are capable of producing large hail, damaging wind gusts, and very heavy rains. All storms are producing dangerous cloud to ground lightning. These cells are moving southeast around 35-40 MPH. Its possible a small cluster of storms may form out of this activity and move southeast into West Texas and eventually towards the Big Country overnight towards Monday morning. Widespread severe weather is not expected but strong storms will remain possible if a thunderstorm cluster does indeed organize. Like the ongoing storms in western North Texas this overnight storm cluster will weaken as it makes progress into North Texas later tonight. Its possible the cap will be too strong and storms will dissipate later this evening.
