Cat-1 Hurricane Zeta (the 6th Greek named storm of 2020) is rapidly approaching SE Louisiana and SW MS with max sustained winds near 90mph. It may briefly achieve Cat-2 status despite unfavorable factors such as wind shear and lowered sea surface temps. Storm surge is a threat from Intracoastal City, LA to Yankeetown, FL with highest surge forecast to reach 6-9 feet along the MS coast and 5-8 feet near Pt Fourchon, LA. Hurricane force winds are a possibility in New Orleans, Slidell, Bay St Louis, and Gulfport in several hours and into the evening. Some 85-100mph wind gusts are not out of the question. Luckily this storm is racing at 18mph and won’t be sticking around long. It will bring TS-force winds all the way to N AL and N GA as well because of how fast it’s moving. Be safe and avoid travel in this area today.
