Another active day of severe weather is forecast across Texas. Much like the last two days, we anticipate scattered supercell thunderstorms to develop after 2 PM in West Texas, the Permian Basin, and perhaps the eastern Big Bend. Storms should develop about 100 miles farther west compared to yesterday. Once they get going, we’ll likely start seeing large hail and strong wind gusts quickly. Erratic storm motions will result in some storms moving north/northeast while others move south/southeast.
Tornadoes will be possible with today’s most intense storms, especially in the Permian Basin and Concho Valley. We may also see a few storms get going closer to Interstate 35 in the Hill Country, Central Texas, and North Texas this afternoon. Those storms may also be a bit rowdy. A cluster of thunderstorms will evolve tonight from the storms out west, and that line or cluster will move across the eastern half to two-thirds of Texas into Sunday morning. Localized damaging winds, pocket-change-size hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning are expected.
Tomorrow’s severe weather risk looks lower thanks to tonight’s widespread rain, but we may still see some rowdy storms across the eastern third of Texas and the southern half of Texas. Rainfall of one to three inches tonight may result in new localized flash flooding and additional river rises.
