The summer weather pattern of hot weather has certainly arrived in Texas. To be fair, it arrived in South Texas about two months ago. We’ve all just been enjoying it for the last couple of weeks. The good news isโwellโit should be over by Thanksgiving.
Today’s Thunderstorm Chances
We still have some active weather to discuss on the outskirts of the upper-level high pressure centered over Texas. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening across Far West Texas, the Trans-Pecos, West Texas, and the Panhandle. With triple-digit temperatures, any storms that do develop will likely throw down nasty downburst winds of 60 to 80 MPH, pocket-change size hail, and a quick downpour.
Lightning may also result in grass fires, and strong winds will blow around the topsoil. Activity will decrease later this evening, a few hours after sunset. If you end up with rain, be thankful. If you end up with rain and part of your roof relocated due to strong winds, blame whoever washed their vehicle. Today, a rogue shower will also be possible along the lower and middle Texas Gulf Coast.
Did you order some Blue Bell with your side of summer?
Hot weather will be the name of the game through the remainder of the work week. If your high temperatures stay in the 90s, be thankful – even though humidity will likely make it feel like the triple digits. This week, Texas’s western and northern half will likely experience several days of triple-digit high temperatures. El Paso may make a run at 110 degrees this afternoon.
This weekend, we may see a weak cool front make its way into the Texas Panhandle with a chance of rain. If that comes to fruition, those lucky folks may enjoy high temperatures in the 80s. The rest of Texas will continue to bake as we approach July. The good news is we don’t anticipate any hurricane mischief in our special place in the world during the upcoming five days. It’s the little things.
