A high-impact wind and wildfire event is anticipated on Wednesday (December 15, 2021) across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. The strongest winds are likely to be between 9 AM and 4 PM – with gusts expected to exceed 70 miles per hour north of Interstate 40. Widespread blowing dust will cause significant visibility reductions and possible road closures.
Plummeting humidity values by lunchtime in conjunction with the damaging wind event may result in a regional wildfire outbreak across the Panhandles and Kansas. Any fires that ignite will have the potential to exhibit explosive growth and may pose a direct threat to life and property. Residents in the impacted regions are encouraged to have a wildfire evacuation plan with multiple escape routes.
Surface winds will decrease around sunset but remain gusty into the evening as a cold front and wind shift arrives during the evening hours. #Texas #Wind #Fire
