Isolated to scattered ‘popcorn’ showers and storms are expected across most of Texas later this morning through the early evening hours. We call them ‘popcorn’ because they can pop up quickly in the summer, drop a bucketload of rain over a forty-five-minute period, and fizzle out with strong wind gusts. Typically, frequent lightning and strong wind gusts are the primary hazards. They can also produce a quick few inches of rain over a small area.
Widespread severe weather is not expected in Texas over the next five days. We have returned to a summer weather pattern, with seasonably warm afternoon high temperatures and warm overnight temperatures. The upper-level heat dome (ridge) isn’t sitting directly over us, so we can generate some chance of hit-or-miss showers and storms. Those chances will continue for the remainder of the week.
Over the next several days, high temperatures across the Coastal Plains, Southeast Texas, East Texas, and the Ark-La-Tex will top out in the 90s. Low temperatures will remain in the 70s. Heat index values up to 105 degrees are expected. With millions without power and air conditioning, we’re especially concerned for those with health-related issues that make them more susceptible to hot weather.
The Atlantic is quiet in the tropical mischief department. No tropical cyclone development is anticipated over the next seven days, and nothing is coming our way.

It’s so hot & no ETA on power. I’ve still got a down line in my backyard like so many. Beyond grateful to neighbors taking care of my portable whole house generator. Without them, having RPPMS, 100% dependant on my electric wheelchair, & recently broken hip, femur, surgery, I wouldn’t be okay. Beyond grateful. They cleared debris so I can receive well checks & crews can get to me if necessary. They’re literally heroes to people like me. Grateful! Y’all stay safe & hopefully we get power soon because this heat can be deadly to many like me & cooling centers aren’t an option in our conditions. Beryl was a very dirty hurricane & the winds did so much damage🥴🙏🏼
