A line of thunderstorms will bring beneficial rains to several regions of Texas later today, tonight, and Wednesday morning. However, some of the storms will also bring damaging straight-line winds and large hail. The highest threat for large hail will be this afternoon with discrete, initial supercelluar thunderstorms. As we transition toward dinner-time, we anticipate storms will grow upscale into a relatively large line. The line of storms may extend from the Concho Valley up toward Northeast Texas. Damaging straight-line winds over 70 miles per hour, brief tornadoes, and instances of ‘pocket-change’ size hail are likely with the most intense storms. Those storms, along with an antecedent cool front, will progress southeast tonight and into the morning hours Wednesday. Storms will continue moving south tomorrow morning out into the Gulf of Mexico and into Deep South Texas. Given tropical-like moisture in place, we could see some heavy rain totals – even though storms will be moving versus ‘sitting’ over one area.
