2021 Texas Christmas to be the Warmest on Record

This year’s Christmas will likely be the warmest in recorded history for most (if not all) of Texas. For parts of Texas, it’ll feel more like April than December. Warm weather fans will be thrilled, while cool weather fans will be emulating the Grinch. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be dry across Texas. Even overnight temperatures, especially across the eastern half of Texas, will be well above late December averages. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will feature dry and windy weather across Texas.

Speaking of dry weather – our biggest weather concerns for Friday and Saturday may be critical wildfire danger and blowing dust (across the western half of Texas). Another windmaker is expected to bring a return to more severe fire danger and pockets of blowing dust on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

We’ll have to nail down specific timing, but wind gusts over 50 MPH are going to be possible across the Texas Panhandle, West Texas, and Northwest Texas on one (or both) of those days. Relative humidity values below 20 percent combined with record high temperatures and the ongoing drought will likely make for dangerous fire weather conditions on Friday and Saturday across the regions mentioned above.
