Southerly winds are keeping Texas warm today, but changes are already on the horizon. Dense fog will develop tonight across the coastal plains, the Coastal Bend, South Central Texas, the Brazos Valley, Southeast Texas, and the Golden Triangle. That could lead to slower drives and some aviation delays early Thursday morning.
Otherwise, the next couple of days remain warm and quiet. Upper-level clouds will drift across the state at times, with only a few sprinkles possible along the upper Texas Gulf Coast. The next strong cold front arrives Sunday into Monday, bringing gusty north winds, much cooler air, and frost or freeze potential across the western and northern parts of the state early next week.
Dry weather continues across Texas, and the wildfire outlook from the Texas A&M Forest Service shows moderate fire danger for most areas. A few locations from the Big Country northwest into West Texas and the Panhandle could see higher fire danger on Thursday.
Temperatures will stay above normal through Saturday, with highs mostly in the 80s and lower 90s. After Sunday’s cold front, highs will fall into the 50s and 60s for northern and western Texas and 70s farther south. Frost looks likely across much of the state by Monday and Tuesday mornings, with freezing temperatures possible in parts of West Texas, the Hill Country, and the Panhandle.
It’s going to feel a lot more like November early next week, but the overall pattern stays dry for now.
