Your HOT Weekend Forecast – Heat Relief Next Week With Arrival Of Our Next Cold Front!

Yes, you read that correctly…a rare early August COLD FRONT is expected to push into the state beginning tomorrow which will bring some relief from our recent heat through much of the work week ahead.  But first, we have to get through today (Saturday) and most of Sunday before we begin to see much in the way of change.  For today…HEAT ADVISORIES are in place across most of north central, northeast, east and far southeast Texas where heat index readings could top out as high as 110 this afternoon.  What does this mean?  It will feel miserable outside…and could be dangerous for those working or exercising outdoors for extended periods of time during peak heating this afternoon.  If you don’t have to be outside this afternoon, just stay in.  Most chores can wait.  If you must be outdoors for any length of time this afternoon…stay hydrated, wear light colored clothing and stay in the shade as much as possible.  Also, do NOT leave children or pets inside a parked car for any reason…not even for just a quick run into the store.

HEAT ADVISORIES IN EFFECT TODAY

COLD FRONT & RAIN CHANCES

Our next cold front is forecast to begin pushing through the panhandle region after midnight tonight.   Highs in Amarillo tomorrow are expected to top out at about 81 which will feel wonderful.  The front will continue to push south very slowly through the day on Sunday arriving in north Texas by the mid to late afternoon hours.  The speed of the front will affect it’s timing, but we should see the front pushing into central Texas by mid-day on Monday.  It’s not likely that this front will remain robust enough to reach coastal areas or deep south Texas, but it will bring chances for rain and storms which hopefully will generate enough outflow boundaries to help push it along.  At any rate, rain and storms and cooler temps will be very welcomed after our recent stretch of miserably hot summer days.  The rainfall accumulation is not expected to be all that great, but anything is appreciated during the summer months.  We’ll begin to warm back up by the end of the work week, but will still see daily highs remain mostly below seasonal averages for the first week of August.  As mentioned above, chances for rain and storms will arrive along with the front, but chances for severe weather will be very low.  Small hail and gusty winds will be the main threats with any of the more robust storms that develop over the next 24 to 48 hours along with period of heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.  Outside of that, no major impacts expected.
