Your 4th of July Holiday Weekend Weather Outlook

We hope everyone will be able to enjoy a long and safe 4th of July holiday weekend!  Overall, the pattern across the state will remain a bit unsettled with daily chances for rain and pop-up (popcorn) showers during the afternoon hours.  Thursday’s remnant weak frontal boundary, draped across the state from the panhandle to south of Dallas and across into east Texas, will continue to provide a focus for showers and pop up scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorm development.  As pop up showers and scattered storms develop this afternoon, they will generate outflow boundaries that will give the appearance of pushing the front south and into central Texas and generating additional showers and storms down into the I-10 corridor.  This front is expected to wash out early next week, but until then, expect a continuation of rain chances each afternoon through the weekend into Monday.  It’s too early to say for sure where fireworks displays today and the 4th will need to be cancelled or postponed due to nearby storm activity, but at this point, it appears or main problem areas will be from just south of Dallas into central Texas and down to the I-10 corridor.  Specifically on the 4th, parts of the Texas Panhandle will also see the chance for strong to severe afternoon storms moving in from New Mexico during the late evening and early overnight hours.  We’re not forecasting a complete washout in any of those areas.  Most of these daily storms will wane after sunset which should allow for most fireworks displays to continue.  Just have a Plan B in place for celebrations in case!  Temperatures through the weekend will remain cooler than average, but it will still feel quite warm and sticky outside with dewpoints in the mid 60s to low 70s across a vast majority of the state.  Northeast Texas will see a brief reprieve from some of the humidity as the weak front draws in a bit of slightly drier air, but don’t get overly excited about that as it will not be all that noticeable and won’t last for long.

We’ll be taking the weekend off to enjoy time with friends and family, but will keep an eye out for any weather mischief just in case!  Have FUN and stay SAFE everyone!
