3 PM Update: Snow ending soon for I-35; Heavy Snow in B/CS moving into East Texas

Snowfall amounts of five to eight inches have been reported just southwest of Fort Worth this afternoon. Stephenville reported 8 inches of snow while Granbury is up to 7″. Waco to Temple has accumulated four to six inches of snow as of 3 PM. We’ll publish a far more comprehensive list of snow totals later tonight or most likely on Monday. After all, our winter storm is just getting underway for folks east of Interstate 45.

Snow is ending now in San Antonio. Most snow will conclude in Austin by 4 PM as a dry slot moves in from the west. We’ve still got light snow falling in the Big Country and western North Texas. Rain is changing over to snow in East Texas, with accumulating snow likely east of Interstate 45 through the evening hours. Y’alls, time is coming!

19Z HRRR: Simulated weather model radar through early Monday morning. Snow will continue moving eastward this evening, eventually ending tonight for the state.

Rain may mix with or change over to snow in the Houston Metro late this afternoon and this evening. The highest potential for accumulating snow will be north of The Woodlands. Travel on Interstates 35 & 45 is not recommended until heavier snows subside, and we can melt off the slush.

Surface temperatures across the eastern half of Texas are expected to remain above freezing tonight. That should let snow and slush slowly melt off the major/well-traveled roadways this evening. Yet, we caution drivers to take it easy. Temperatures will be below freezing tonight in Texas’s western half, so any melting snow may ice up. You can check Texas road conditions at drivetexas.org

Wrap-around moisture on the back-side of our departing upper-level low may bring light snow to North Texas this evening. There may be enough snow to produce a dusting with locally up to one-half inch possible. We don’t expect many impacts from the light snow in North Texas this evening. Precipitation should conclude in Houston by about 11 PM. We’ll be drying out state-wide not long after 2 AM Monday.
